Steven F. Greuter

Steven Franklin Greuter, passed away on April 17, 2026, at Good Samaritan – St Luke’s Nursing Home surrounded by the persons he loved. Steven was born on April 15, 1952, in Hastings to Evelyn (Kitts) and Ivan N. Greuter. He was born the youngest of eleven children. He grew up and attended school in Juniata, NE and graduated in McAlester, OK, before settling in Kearney, NE. Steven was the owner and operator of S & J Construction for fifty years before retiring. He was an intelligent, gifted, hardworking man who built countless grain bins, grain systems, steel buildings, and farm structures. He was a certified welder from the Central Community College Welding Technology school (Hastings campus), like his father and brother. Earlier in life, he was married twice. Steven enjoyed his feline friends, catfish and flathead fishing, hunting pheasant and quail, playing cards, and watching westerns. He was a previous member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE), and an excellent dancer. Survivors include four sons, Clifton (Angela) Greuter of Superior, Montana, the Rev. Dr. Ivan (Rexanne) Greuter of Kansas, Travis (Swaylana) Greuter of Kearney, and Trever Greuter of Kearney; grandchildren, Olivia, Mekenna, Savanna, Jessamine, Macy, David, Kristian, Kale, and Charley; and one great-grandson, Silas; brothers and sisters, Tim (Linda) Greuter, Sharon Koch, Nancy Johnson, Mary (Alvin) Gangwish, Pennie (Kenneth) Dunkel; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Steven was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; a son, Kirk Greuter; a brother, Jack Greuter; four sisters, Trudy Johnson, Donnell Munson-Hoey, Margory Norquest, and Terry Timmons. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. who are entrusted with the arrangements. A Celebration of Life Reception will be held at the Kearney Eagles (FOE) Club on Friday, April 24, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Private family burial will be held at the Juniata Cemetery. Memorials are suggested for the Central Community College Welding Technology scholarship program, and Kearney Cat Rescue. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com.
