Norma Jean Schrack

Norma Jean (Moors) Schrack, 94, of Kearney, Nebraska, concluded a long and well-lived life on April 17, 2026, at Mother Hull Home in Kearney. A celebration of Norma’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at First United Methodist Church, with the Reverend JoEllen Axthelm officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon following the service, with inurnment at Kearney Cemetery to follow. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Condolences may be shared online at www.osrfh.com. Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services. Norma was born on June 13, 1931, in Worcester, Massachusetts, to Albert and Bernice Moors. She was raised in Worcester and graduated from Worcester Classical High School. In 1949, she traveled by train from Worcester to Nebraska to attend Kearney State Teachers College. During her first week of school, she met Ward “Bud” Schrack- a meeting that would shape the rest of her life. The two were united in marriage on December 17, 1950, in Kearney, beginning a loving partnership that spanned nearly 65 years. Together they built a life in several communities, living in Denver, Colorado; Crawfordsville and Indianapolis, Indiana; Grand Island; and ultimately settling in Kearney. They were blessed with four children: Susan Ann (1952), Ward Brian (1955), Stacy Ann (1957), and William Bradley (1960). After raising her children, Norma returned to Kearney State College to complete her teaching degree. She went on to be a beloved second grade teacher at Northeast Elementary School for many years, retiring in 1990. Norma was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church in Kearney and was active in the Seekers adult Sunday School class. She was also involved in Golden K Kiwanis, Kearney State College Faculty Wives, Camp Fire Girls, Sonrise Bible Study, the Audubon Society, her Bunco ladies group, and in her later years, a cherished group known as “Friday Friends”. She found joy in sewing, quilting, working jigsaw puzzles, reading, but her greatest happiness came from time spent with her family. Norma and Ward traveled extensively, with some of her most cherished trips being those to Cape Cod, MA and Block Island, RI. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Ann Weinberg; her husband, Ward Schrack; her parents-in-law, Ward and Gladys Schrack; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Chandler and Jean Lynch; her daughter, Susan Kincaid; her son, Brad Schrack; and her granddaughter, Amy Lammers. Norma is survived by her son, Brian Schrack of Fort Collins, Colorado; her daughter, Stacy (Tim) Peterson of Kearney; her daughters-in-law, Leslie Schrack of Windsor, Colorado, and Deb Schrack of Kearney; and her son-in-law, Dick Kincaid of Kearney. She is also survived by her nephew, Chan Lynch; nieces, Lisa (Bob) Anderson, Sally (Mike) Hauff, and Nancy (Randy) Gullion, all of Kearney; her grandchildren, Stephanie (Brian) Potter, Kearney, Philip (Heather) Schrack, LeRoy, Minnesota, Ryan Peterson, Windsor, Colorado, Megan (Mike) Kersten, Hong Kong, Molly Kincaid, Lincoln, James(Heidi) Schrack, Windsor, Colorado, Kylie Peterson, Portland, Oregon, Joel (Emily) Peterson, Omaha; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; and many beloved friends and extended family. Norma’s kindness, warmth, and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. In her honor, those attending the service are encouraged to wear her favorite color, turquoise.
